Have the assistant adjust the candle to where it feels most comfortable; but insure that no smoke is coming from the ear opening. You may cut the ash from the burning end to keep the air flow constant. As you cut the ash; balance it on the scissors and place it in the water. Let the candle burn to about 3 inches above the plate and then remove from the ear. Take the candle out of the plate and extinguish it in the water.
